Wofford College Transforms into a Fantasyland for Children
The sun-drenched lawn at Wofford College was transformed into a magical Fantasyland for the enjoyment of 400 disadvantaged children on Saturday. Children raced from sword fighting lessons with the daring street rat, "Aladdin," to story time with "Beauty and the Beast" heroine and bookworm, Belle.
Cowpens Students celebrate as Boys & Girls Club Opens
Third grader Aiden Vinson was especially excited. Cowpens Elemenatary Principal Cindy Snead said the first words out of Vinson's mouth when he arrived at school that morning were "When does Boys and Girls Club start?" Vinson and 11 other students are the school's first club members. Cowpens Elementary School held the grand opening of a Boys and Girls Club on Tuesday.

Kudos to Spartanburg County Councilman O’Neal Mintz for his June 12 op-ed piece, “Upstate communities can learn from Belmont,” which outlined the benefits of planning for walkable communities. Councilman Mintz attended Upstate Forever’s recent field trip to Belmont, N.C., where he and other participants were inspired by that formerly fading mill town’s revival through policies and initiatives that support active living.

Boys & Girls Club opens Chapters at O.P. Earle & Pacolet
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Upstate Held a ribbon cutting for its 15th club Tuesday at O.P. Earle Elementary School. Clubs at O.P. Earle in Spartanburg District 1 and Pacolet Elementary School in Spartanburg District 3 both opened at the beginning of the school year and are the first clubs in their respective school districts.
